She said, “We decided to use the youths to anchor our programme because drug is eating deep into the youths and sensitization is critical to addressing the problem.

“Besides, AFI has been working closely with NDLEA since 2017. Initially, AFI started as a social club but the status was changed because it has to help the government in its war against drug abuse, especially among youths.

“AFI was founded on the ideology of getting the ‘Be Against Drug’ Campaign to the nooks and cranies of Nigeria, with the support of late wife of the chairman of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Mrs. Zainab Maruwa who as a member of Board of Trustees (BoT) helped to register the foundation.”

President, Youth Wing of Anambra Association of Town Unions (ASATU), Mr. Ken Okoli described AFI as laudable and a dramatic way of advocating against Drug abuse.

He recalled how refused to be lured into smoking during his school years at young age.

He pledged support for the group, including taking winner of the pageant to Anambra first lady and get AFI key into the first lady’s weekly programmes.

“Getting the youths as advocates is a wonderful idea because in every society youth remains the foundation” he said.

Also speaking, Southeast Director of the organization, Mayor Chigozie Nwizu-Atuenyi disclosed that they are working in synergy with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the battle against drug abuse.

He also assured contestants in the pageant of level praying ground in the contest.
