Residents of Woliwo Community in Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State have appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to include the community in his infrastructural developmental plans of the state.
The residents, under the agies of Woliwo Community Welfare Association made the appeal during a stakeholders’ meeting in the area.
They lamented that neighboring areas have experienced face-lift with hospitals, streetlight, good roads, among other goodies while Woliwo was suffering abandonment.
“Areas like Okpoko and Fegge, are now wearing a new look with Hospitals, street light and good Roads, while Woliwo seems to be neglected, despite the fact that the area is densely populated with the highest number of voters in the entire Onitsha South Local Government Area,” he said.
In her speech, Convener of the Woliwo Community Welfare Association meeting, Mrs Grace Anaekwe, popularly known as Madam Black, said the area remained the only community yet to receive any security vehicle or motorcycle from previous administrations in the state.
“The community is giving priority attention to the security of lives and property and decided to adopt the community self-help program with the intention of erecting security Towers and Gates, including installation of CCTV cameras in strategic places in the area to help in monitoring activities of criminal elements in the community.
While revealing that Woliwo Community Welfare Association had been formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAS), Anaekwe said efforts were on to present the challenges facing the community to the state Governor.
“The community is solidly behind Governor Soludo for his second term to enable him complete the numerou projects in the state,” she added.
Other speakers at the meeting were the President-General of community, Chief Ifeanyi Onwuegbuchulam, representative of the landlords, Chief Vincent Ofodi, Chairman of Works Committee, Chief Cosmas Nwugo, a community leader, Pastor Obiora Tagbo and Evangelist Johnson Uba.
The stakeholders, in their separate speeches, expressed satisfaction with the transformation taking place in the state, while calling on Soludo to give Woliwo Community a sense of belonging by providing them with the required amenities.
Highlights of the event were inauguration of 9 committees and goodwill messages to the governor on his election as the Vice Chairman of Southern Governors Forum and the emergence of Hon Emeka orji as Transition chairman, Onitsha south Local government area.
The community later paid a courtesy call on the Transition Chairman.
