People of Ebenebe in Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra State have
commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for completing the Amansea-Ebenebe-Ugbenu-Ugbene-Awba-Ofemili road project, which had suffered long abandonment since its commencement.

The traditional ruler, Igwe Chris Nnaegbuna who gave the commendation in a chat with newsmen in his palace described completion of the project started by former Governor Peter Obi in May 2007 as a demonstration of Soludo’s love for the people of the area.

Nnaegbuna who spoke through the Palace Public Relations Officer, Chief Ezekiel Okafor said the completion of the road had opened up the agrarian communities, calling on government to take advantage of their vast land for development.

He said, “Prior to the completion of this road, this part of the state had suffered untold hardship. Despite being the food basket of Anambra State, our people could not easily bring out their harvested products to markets in city centres.

“But since this road was commissioned, transportation stress has eased off. We can evacuate our agric produce to urban centres where they command high economic value. We promise with what he has done for us, we will continue to support his government.”

On the prices of transportation and items since the road was delivered, the monarch said there has been tremendous change.

“But for the current economic hardship in the country, the change would have been huge but the pump price of fuel had rubbished it. What we gain from the good road, we lose to the high cost of transportation occasioned by high cost of fuel per liter.

“Before we were complaining of bad road, but now, the only complaint is about high price of petrol. Years ago, from here to Awka cost between N800 to N1000. But now, they have reduced their price to between N500 and N600,” he added.

While recalling the implication of the good road on the development of the benefitting communities, the Royal Father said, “Yes, many people are coming into this place to buy land and rent accommodation so that they can be going from here to work in Awka. We now face the challenge of making houses available for them.

He further called on the state government to pay attention to the health needs of the people of the areas.

“We are also calling on the government to come and explore our vast land here for development. We don’t have a general hospital serving this part of Awka North.
