Charles Soludo, the newly inaugurated governor of Anambra, has announced that the weekly sit-at-home order sanctioned by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) will officially come to an end on Monday, April 4, 2022. The governor disclosed this during a stakeholder meeting in Awka on Saturday, April 2, 2022. The meeting was attended by traditional and religious leaders as well as youth leaders across Anambra State. Security agencies were also represented at the important event.
The theme of the meeting is “Come, let’s reason together.” The governor pleaded with the promoters of violence in Anambra State to stop and work with his administration for a new era.

Soludo added that the weekly sit-at-home must come to an end with immediate effect.
The governor announced at the event that a bell will ring in the state on Monday to signal prayer and mark the end of sit-at-home in Anambra State.

In the opening address presented by the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers, HRH Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe (Agbogidi, Obi of Onitsha), he informed the audience that the South East Council of Traditional Rulers converged with a joint body of Bishops and Archbishops to make a joint statement towards peace and conflict resolution in the State. He extended his gratitude to IPOB for their decision to follow the path of peace and show solidarity to the present administration.

Distinguished Senator Uche Ekwunife applauded Governor Soludo for introducing the initiative to gather Anambra stakeholders to dialogue about peace and security in the state. She urged the people to always pray and never relent to report whatever they see. She blamed poor parenting as one of the causes of youths restiveness. She however admitted that issues of security are not actually meant for the public and recommended the establishment of Anambra State Orientation Agency.

The Executive Governor, Prof Charles Soludo CFR expressed his appreciation for the huge turnout witnessed and opined that indeed Anambra must be well. He had special thanks for the joint bodies of traditional rulers and clergies for their joint statement towards the next step for Anambra. He said violence, mayhem and bloodshed are not the features of the true Anambrarian. He stressed that it’s time to engage differently and seriously. “In engaging the people we do not discriminate! We must engage the good, the bad and the ugly. We must engage to the solution.”

Mr Governor informed the audience that there was a joint agreement for all churches in Anambra on Monday 4th of April to commence prayers at 11am officially ending the long upheld sit at home exercise. He offered his support and commitment to the joint body to ensure Mazi Nnamdi Kanu receives an expeditious judgement. He stated that IPOB issued a forceful statement and supported his position for Monday sit at home to end indefinitely. “The Monday sit at home achieves nothing! It’s not the best way to progress. You say your children shouldn’t go to school as a way to protest against marginalisation. Since IPOB have officially stated that they are no longer a part of the sit at home, we therefore plead with them to join forces with us.”

Personalities in attendance are the Speaker Anambra House of Assembly, Rt Hon Uche Victor Okafor, Deputy Speaker Anambra House of Assembly , Rt Hon Paschal Agbodike, Secretary to the State Government, Prof Solo Chukwulobelu, the Chief of Staff to Gov Soludo, Hon Ernest Ezeajuyi, Distinguished Sen Ben Obi, Deputy Chairman Ohanaeze, Chief Damian Okeke. Others are Honorable House Members present, His Lordships, Bishops, Venerables, Archbishops, Traditional rulers, Service chiefs, Commanders, Correctional Services, NCDC, FRSC, Market Unions, Youth Leaders, President Generals, etc.
