ANSDRC to establish Fund for PWDs

Anambra State Disabilities Rights Commission (ANSDRC) on Thursday announced its plans to set up Persons With Disabilities Fund as stipulated by section 16 of the state Disabilities Rights Law 2018.

Chairman of the Commission, Ezewuzie Chukwuka disclosed this in a media briefing said the fund establishment was among two important actionable plans adopted during the Commission’s quarterly meeting.

According to Ezewuzie, Bishop Moses Ezedebeago, a member of the commission was appointed the Chairman of the Fund raising committee to actualise the plan.

He listed other resolutions by the commission to include appointment of liason officers (CLOs) at the Local government, community and ward levels as well as collaboration and regular communication with the Transition Committee Chairmen, Traditional and religious leaders, Presidents General and Town Union executives.

He said, “The Commission also adopted One youth two skills enrollment for youths with disabilities and agricultural revolution pulling PWDs out of poverty using establishment of Access Market Pavillion, Coorperative Society for PWDs, credit facilities for entrepreneurs and trade fair for merchants and skilled persons with disabilities

“The Commission will continue, expand and intensify efforts to bring Mr Governor’s solution vision to persons with disabilities in 326 political wards of Anambra State.”

ANSDRC boss appreciated one of the Commission’s members, Dr Lady Pat Okeke and wife of Chief G.U Okeke for donating two classrooms and hostel blocks to Special School for the Deaf, Odoakpu, Onitsha.

He also thanked Rule of Law and Anti-corruption program (RULAAC) for sponsoring accessibility audit research of Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) with numerous dividends.
