Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced that the state is making significant progress, ranking as the sixth largest economy in Nigeria with the lowest poverty indicators.

Governor Soludo made this statement during a live broadcast in Awka, commemorating Anambra State’s 33rd anniversary.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Anambra was established on August 27, 1991, alongside eight other states, under the leadership of then-military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Reflecting on the state’s journey over the past 33 years, Soludo highlighted that Anambra remains on the right trajectory, being among the top six most viable economies in the country.

“In terms of poverty index, we rank the lowest, and we have the largest urban centers with four major cities in the state,” Soludo stated. “We also have the lowest number of out-of-school children in the country, a testament to our educational achievements. In healthcare, we are second only to Lagos in having a low infant mortality rate.”

As Soludo approaches his third year in office, he emphasized his administration’s cautious approach to borrowing, proudly stating that no loans have been taken.

“I want to make it clear that we take the issue of borrowing very seriously. We will not borrow unless we can clearly show where the funds will be allocated and the value they will add,” Soludo asserted. “The recent claim that Anambra is planning to borrow N245 billion to finance the 2024 budget is a blatant falsehood and should be disregarded.”

Governor Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to elevating Anambra to greater heights and preserving the vision of the state’s founding fathers. (NAN).
