Soludo assures corps members of security, urges them to be law-abiding

Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo has reassured corps members deployed to the state for national service of maximum security in the state.

He gave the assurance at the swearing in of 2024 batch C stream 1 corps members at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation camp, umuawulu/mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

The governor, represented by Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youth, Engr Martin Agbili however urged them to be law-abiding and respectful to the cultures and traditions of the people of the state.

He congratulated them on the courage to answer the clarian call to serve their fatherland for twelve unbroken months, saying their destiny had placed them comfortably under his administration steering the ship of a state targeted to build a liveable, prosperous and smart mega city.

He said, “For two years, my formidable team and I have been steadily and swiftly delivering the mandate to the people hinged on peace and security, infrastructural development, economic transformation, human capital development and social agenda.

“Peace and Security are twin programmes which my administration faced squarely on assumption of office. It can be stated without equivocation, that the state is peaceful and secure. However, the security operatives in the state are in synergy in ensuring that there is no breach of the peace in the state.

“It is crystal clear that the congenial environment in the state created by peace and security propelled my administration to embark on infrastructural development. Therefore, movement to any part of the state would witness massive road construction, bridges, flyovers and reactivation of public water supply.

“It is our belief that opening up of roads will aid our industrial revolution for production for local consumption and export and to earn much needed revenue for the state.

“That explains the reason for our commencement of the building of industrial clusters. In no distant time, the state will be a cynosure of the manufacture of local goods not only in the eyes of the Southeast but the entire country.

“My administration is mindful of the importance of human capital development in the contemporary society particularly among the youths and that explains why we are vigorously pursuing 1 Youth 2 Skills programme aimed at empowering the youths in skills acquisition and digital skills.

“We have so many youth enterprise development programmes that you should take maximum advantage of to better your lives during your service year.

“These programmes include Solution Innovation District (SID) through which about 20,000 youths were empowered with digital skills, Solution Sports Initiative for identification and development of burden talents and of course the 1 Youth 2 Skills Solution designed to have tentacles in all the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.

“5000 youths were empowered with vocational and entrepreneurship skills as well as N2billion grant for business start-up and expansion. It is interesting to note that under phase one, 100 corps members were beneficiaries.

“On the 8th of August, 2024, I flagged off the second phase of 1Fouth2Skills that will train more than 8000 youths in 48 different skills and additional one hundred (100) corps members are beneficiaries of the second phase which is ongoing.

“Again, my administration has focused on creativity industry geared towards harnessing the creative potentials of our youths. This gesture of government is receiving accolades from well-meaning Nigerians.

“For you to benefit maximally from the laudable and development orientated programmes of my administration, you are enjoined to internalize the contents of the orientation exercise, be law-abiding, respect the cultures and traditions of the people and after the service year, take home the spirit of hard-work which is the trademark of an average Anambra person.”

Earlier, State Coordinator, Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma announced that a total of 1200 corps members, comprising 533 males and 667 females were deployed to the state.

She challenged them to develop interest in Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) so they could become great entrepreneurs in the country.

“Throughout this orientation course you will be mentored, monitor, guided and evaluated on character traits, leadership and organisational capabilities by designated camp officials. Recognition will be given to outstanding Prospective Corps Members.

“It is crystal clear that in the prevailing economic circumstances white collar jobs are scarce and the management of the NYSC quickly recognised this challenge and has fashioned out the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme targeted at making you skillful, creative, innovative, wealth creators, self reliant and employers of labour.

“So, in this camp, develop interest in SAED, pick a skill, put your soul and mind in it and soon you will be counted among the great entrepreneurs in the country,” she stated.
