Class Of 90, Enugu School Holds First Reunion Conference

In a heartwarming reunion, Members of the Alumni Association of Union Secondary School, Awkunanaw, Enugu, Class of 1990, have gathered at Universal Hotels, Independence Layout Enugu, for her first National Conference in over three decades.

The conference which attracted members of the association within and outside Nigeria was for the members of the class to reunite and thank God for their shared years of enduring experiences from their time at the school.

Members of the alumni group were in joyous mood during the event which saw them meeting with old school mates,holding useful discussions and planning to give back to the school.

We gathered that Union Secondary school is one of the great schools that has produced major players in all spheres of human endeavours scattered all over the world with records of good performances.

Addressing the gathering, President of the association, Mr Ken Ndibe, who recounted how the group began in 2018 through collective efforts of Orji Madubuko, Dr Ken Okeke, Ndukwe Eze, Chinedu Okpara and Late Chidi Agbasi, appreciated all that made the occasion a success.

“We are meeting physically to discuss and share insight on what best to give to ourselves and back to our alma mater”

In a Goodwill Message, Senior Prefect of the school, Class of 1990, and the Vicar, St Mattias Anglican Church, Maryland, Enugu, Rev Canon Elochukwu Okechukwu, urged them to uphold the legacy of excellence and honour the bonds that connect them.

He emphasized the need for them to ensure that they remain a beacon of inspiration, support and hope for their less privileged members.

Rev Canon Elochukwu, who doubles as the Administrator, Maryland Archdeaconry, appealed to members of the association to join hands to drive the vision of contributing to the success of group members, including their Alma mater.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr Chibuike Ezenwukwa, urged other old Boys of the school who are yet to join the association to come on board and help in bringing the glory of the school back to limelight.

Delivering lectures on Diabetes,Prostate Cancer and Hypertension,Dr Ken Okeke of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital,Nnewi, Dr Obinna Okwesili of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ozalla and Dr Alabi Omenukwar, respectively explained how best to treat and manage the medical conditions at all times in order to achieve best results.

They highlighted the need for collective commitment to reducing the diseases prevalence through awareness and proactive health screenings,underscoring the importance of early detection in preventing complications.

According to Okeke,the complications associated with diabetes ranging from kidney damage to issues with eyes and feet, pose serious threats to health.

The One Day Conference also featured a presentation on group insurance policy by Ann Okafor, Enugu Branch Manager, AXA MSNSARD Insurance PLC.
