Two suspects allegedly involved in the kidnap and murder of Justice Azuka, member representing Onitsha North 1 State Constituency, who were arrested by the recent joint operations of Anambra State security outfits Agunaechemba,the Anambra State Anti Tout Squad (SASA ) and the Nigerian Police were said to have escaped from Police during an operation.
Sources close to Special Anti robbery squard SARS/RRS AWKUZU said there was plan to arrest a receiver of cars snatched by the gang members who kidnapped Hon Azuka on 24th December , 2024, along Ugwunabankpa Road when he stopped to celebrate Christmas for some his relatives.
The five – member kidnapping gang abducted, murdered the House of Assembly member and dumped his lifeless body on Second Niger Bridge at Obosi in Idemili South Local Government Area.
During the operation, sources told Onitsha North Elders Forum (ONEF) in a statement signed by Chief Celestine Onowu Onochie and Ichie Onwuka Idika Chairman and secretary respectively said that the receiver insisted that he would never make himself available until two of the armed robbers known as KEVIN IKECHUKWU OSSAI aka IKEM, a notorious kidnapper who led the abduction of late Hon. Justice Azuka and one other, aka OCHA,.
The source said OCHA was asked to drive the Car while IKEM chained on his leg was sitting at the passengers seat.
Two SARs operatives were sitting at the back seat of the same Car.
ONEF further gathered that immediately the operation was about to take place on sighting the receiver, the two Sars officers were said to have jumped out, while OCHA was still in control of the steering.
It was gathered that immediately the two Police men made for the arrest of the receiver, IKEM and OCHA were said to have zoomed off and escaped.
Sources also said that the police claimed neutralising the kidnappers but the information had it that the kidnappers escaped with the vehicle.
ONEF said the Police authority should tell Anambrarians what actually happened, arguing that if the criminals were neutralised, they should show the corpses to the public or show any other evidence to that effect.
ONEF unequivocally called for thorough and discreet investigation into the development, stating that the Police should immediately set machinery in motion to unravel the incident that led to the alleged escape.
They said if it is true the Police should do whatever they can to re -arrest these fleeing suspects.
ONEF also further called on the the Inspection -General of Police (IGP) and the Police Service Commission (PSC) to set up a special investigative team to unravel the circumstances leading to the alleged escape of these suspects.
They warned that if efforts are not made to rearrest these notorious criminals within one week, they would stage a comeback for a revenge mission against the operatives who had earlier arrested them.
ONSEF call on Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo and members of the state House of Assembly to immediately set up motion in place to arrest the fleeing bandits ,ONSEF cautioned
