The remains of Chief Mathias Anohu will finally be laid to rest at his country home, Ubahu Okija in Anambra State.

According to the funeral arrangements, announced by Chief Anohu’s eldest son, Engr. Victor Anohu, there will be a requiem mass on Wednesday, April 30, 2024, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity in Onitsha, Anambra.

The funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2024, at Christ the King Parish, Ubahu, Okija, Anambra, followed by his burial in his hometown of Okija.

The funeral activities for the late statesman commenced on Thursday with a Service of Songs at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja.

In his tribute, Obasanjo described Chief Anohu as a devout Christian who devoted his life to serving both God and humanity, highlighting his patriotism and dedication to public service.

Jonathan praised Anohu’s unwavering integrity, which he said was a hallmark of his character. He also commended Anohu’s legacy, particularly the achievements of his children, some of whom had prominent roles in national development. Jonathan specifically mentioned Hon. Emeka Anohu, a former member of the National Assembly, and Chinelo Anohu, a pioneer in pension reform and the former Director-General of the National Pension Commission.

Governor Mbah lauded Anohu’s contributions, referring to him as a celebrated statesman, an eminent pharmacist, an outstanding public servant, a community leader, and a devout Catholic.

Similarly, Governor Bago expressed that words were insufficient to convey the magnitude of the loss, emphasizing Anohu’s passion for serving humanity.

Chief Anohu, who passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 84, had a distinguished career in public service, including serving as Permanent Secretary for Education in Anambra State in 1998 and later as Commissioner I of the Anambra State Civil Service Commission. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Virgy Anohu, their children, grandchildren, and other family members.
