The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man, Akpan Godwin, for possession of 1,100 rounds of live ammunition in Nkpor, Onitsha.
The suspect was apprehended on August 22, 2025, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Akwuzu, acting on credible intelligence.
According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, “The suspect confessed to being involved in the illegal sale of ammunition and mentioned other individuals connected to the illicit trade.”

Ikenga stated that the police are currently conducting investigations and a manhunt to apprehend all accomplices. Further developments will be communicated in due course.
He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
“We will not relent in our efforts to rid our state of illegal arms and ammunition. We appeal to the public to support us with credible intelligence to enable us to tackle this menace effectively,” SP Tochukwu Ikenga stated.
