The Anambra State Police Command has continued to intensify its onslaught against criminal elements in the state, recording yet another success with the recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles in separate operations in Awka and Oba.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the breakthroughs were achieved following sustained patrols and proactive security measures introduced by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, to frustrate the activities of unrepentant criminals.

According to him, the first incident occurred on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at about 10:10 pm, when Police operatives attached to the Central Police Station, Awka, swiftly responded to a distress call and recovered a snatched Lexus ES 350 car with registration number Lagos – BDG 350 JR. The vehicle, the statement noted, was abandoned along Parkers Road, Awka, after a coordinated chase by the operatives.

Preliminary information had it that four armed men, operating in an unregistered tricycle, had earlier blocked the victim along Ifite Road, Amaenyi, forcing him to abandon his vehicle before they fled with it. However, the timely response of the Police-led patrol team led to the interception and recovery of the vehicle.

Similarly, the SP Ikenga stated that, in the early hours of Friday, September 5, 2025, operatives of the Oba Division received intelligence that a black Lexus RX 300 Jeep, with registration number Anambra – AWK 31 DU, had been abandoned near the Mummy Hotel axis along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway in Oba. He said the officers, acting on the information, promptly mobilized to the location and secured the vehicle, and thereafter towed it to the station for safekeeping.

While assuring that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprits behind both incidents, the Command expressed appreciation to the people of Anambra for their timely and useful information, noting that such collaboration remains a vital strategy in combating crime and enhancing airtight public safety.

The Police further reaffirmed its commitment under CP Orutugu’s leadership to sustaining robust patrols, quick response, and intelligence-driven operations to rid the state of criminal activities and further guarantee the safety of lives and property of Ndị Anambra.
