Leading Nigerian vociferous auto merchant and industrialist, Dr. Cosmas Maduka, the founder of Coscharis Group, has an estimated net worth of $500 million.

Recently, he raised concerns about the “money na water” mantra many young people are adopting today and they said he should go and make money first before talking about their billionaires on IG.

We have succeeded in electing the worst of us into public offices and empowering the worse of us through social media to produce low quality people and conversations all round. Today, the argument is about whose “fake iPhone” is cheaper.

You may argue those who say “money na water” are in showbiz and they are doing it for their businesses. I agree with you. But the problem with this type of show off is that they are not as liquid as they claim to be and regular people are getting influenced by this lifestyle.

I have not spoken with someone for several months, and although I see his status attending different social events and having fun, I never had the time to check up. One Saturday evening, I decided to reach out because his younger sister asked me for a laptop to learn digital skills. I assumed, since her brother was balling, it should be easy for him to provide that.

When I reached out and asked about business, he didn’t have anything nice to say and told me he was only surviving. He ended up asking for £500 gift and when I told him I couldn’t afford to give him that money as a gift, he called me a stingy man who doesn’t want to enjoy life. I managed to get the laptop for his younger sister who is responsible and shows better prospects at succeeding in life.

We are a poor society and millions of young people are jobless or self employed with less than ₦5 million trading capital.

If anything needs to flow like water, it is jobs and accountability from top to bottom.
