Despite directives by the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, for intensified surveillance of identified crime hotspots across the state, gunmen on Thursday abducted a medical doctor in Uruagu, Nnewi, located in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of the State.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, preliminary investigations indicate that the incident occurred on Thursday when unidentified armed men abducted the victim under circumstances yet to be fully ascertained.

SP Ikenga stated that upon receiving the distress report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, immediately ordered the launch of an intensive manhunt and directed the Command’s tactical teams to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the prompt arrest of the perpetrators.

“The Commissioner has assured members of the public that the Command is making every effort to ensure the swift resolution of this case,” Ikenga said.

He further noted that the CP has appealed to residents particularly those within Nnewi and its environs to remain calm, vigilant, and supportive of ongoing police operations by providing credible and timely information that could assist in the investigation.

“Anyone with useful information is encouraged to contact the nearest police station or reach the Command Control Room via 07039194332, or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) through 08039334002, for prompt response,” the statement added.

The Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all residents of Anambra State, assuring that it will leave no stone unturned in bringing those behind such criminal acts to justice.
