Former Nigerian presidential candidate Peter Obi has met with European Union lawmakers in Strasbourg, France, to push for a stronger partnership between the EU and Nigeria.

According to Obi, the meetings, which took place yesterday, were constructive and covered various areas of cooperation, including foreign affairs, civil liberties, justice, and home affairs, as well as transport, tourism, and development.

Obi appealed to the EU lawmakers to strengthen their relationship with Africa, particularly Nigeria, which he described as a key frontier for global development. He emphasized Africa’s immense potential, citing its size, population, natural resources, and youthful demographic.

However, Obi noted that despite these advantages, Africa remains the face of global poverty, largely due to bad leadership and entrenched corruption.

He urged the EU to support Nigeria’s development by promoting good governance, democracy, and the emergence of competent leaders with integrity. Obi also sought EU support in addressing insecurity, improving power generation and distribution, strengthening education and healthcare, and lifting Nigerians out of poverty.

“A New Nigeria is Possible,” Obi tweeted, emphasizing that Africa and Nigeria can contribute to global development if given the opportunity.

Obi also highlighted the need to invest in and support Nigerian youths, who have a strong desire for entrepreneurship and productivity, but are facing despair due to limited opportunities.

The former presidential candidate emphasized that Nigeria’s success and Africa’s success have a direct benefit to Europe, and urged the EU to invest in the continent’s development.
