Speaking at the kickoff ceremony, Chief Fabian said the competition was conceived as a platform to redirect youthful energy toward sports, discipline, and communal harmony and emphasized that unity remains the bedrock of development and urged Nteje youths to embrace peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and healthy competition throughout the festive period and beyond.

In his remarks, the President General of Nteje Community, Dr. Nnamdi Iloduba, commended Chief Fabian for the laudable initiative, noting that sports remain a powerful tool for social cohesion.

He stressed that the tournament goes beyond entertainment, serving as a unifying force capable of strengthening bonds among the various segments of the community, while encouraging youths to shun violence and uphold the values of Nteje.

The Planning Committee Chairman of the 2025 Nteje Unity Cup, Mr. Augustine Chukwuma Nwafor, explained that the competition was structured to accommodate teams from the three sub-regions of Nteje, with each sub-region presenting two teams; Team A and Team respectively.

He disclosed that the overall winner will receive a cash prize of ₦500,000, while the second and third positions will earn ₦300,000 and ₦200,000 respectively, as incentives to encourage commitment and excellence.

The tournament kicked off with an exciting opening match in which Ifite Nteje Team B edged past Ezi Nteje Team B with a 2–2 draw, setting a competitive and enthusiastic tone for the rest of the championship.
