Plans are now in an advanced stage for a three-day bootcamp that would be held in Nnewi for participants to acquire no fewer than four competitive digital skills. The programme designed for Nnewi youths from the age of 16 years old, is slated to be held from the 15th through the 17th of April, 2026, at Uru Community Hall, Umudim Nnewi. Four digital skills to be taught to participants by organizers include web development, data analysis, product design (UI/UX), and Ai engineering. These skills will be extensively taught to participants free of charge. There will also be post-training follow-up for the best-performing participants who would be linked to end users or consumers of their digital skills for livelihood.
The training organized in conjunction with Naweschools is sponsored by Hon. Ekene Iwuchukwu, who is a native of Nnewi. Mr. Iwuchukwu, a graduate of Political Science from the University of Nigeria, is a tech enthusiast; he also holds a master’s degree in Political Science. For him, ICT is the “backbone of modern life.”
Reacting, in a brief interview, to why he is motivated to sponsor the bootcamp, Hon. Ekene Iwuchukwu, said he wants Nnewi youths to be part of the global digital economy. “I am the sponsor of the Nnewi Youth Digital Bootcamp that would be held next month. My motivation is to put our young people through the training they need to become equipped with digital skills that would help them compete in the global digital economy,” Mr. Iwuchukwu said. Responding to why he is interested in supporting young people to acquire tech skills, he said the reason is that “ICT has virtually taken over everything, forming the backbone of modern life, fundamentally altering how society operates, innovates, and creates value.”
When asked how he believes participants can maximize the opportunity, Hon. Iwuchukwu said that the financial obligations for participants have been fulfilled, allowing them to focus on learning. “Participants can maximize this opportunity by adopting a growth mindset, focus and make sure he or she is in tune with the teachings and training, collaborate with fellow participants to build a network of tech community that can lead to more opportunities,” Ekene Iwuchukwu said. Based on that, he also admonished participants to “stay disciplined and focused because tech training can be challenging, but growth depends on dedication to the process.”
The three-day Nnewi digital skills bootcamp is expected to train at least one hundred participants.
