Tansian University, Anambra, has terminated the appointment of its Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Ellis Idemobi, over allegations of fraud and administrative misconduct.

The termination was conveyed in a letter signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Rev. Daniel I. Igwilo, stating that the decision took effect from April 8.

The university accused Idemobi of involvement in the manipulation of university documents and administrative processes, allegedly aimed at undermining the authority of the proprietors and the governing board.

It further alleged that his actions were intended to destabilise the institution’s governance structure and alter control and ownership arrangements to his advantage, as well as engage in acts amounting to financial misappropriation.

“The Board of Trustees of Tansian University, with the approval of the Proprietors, Missionary Sons of the Blessed Tansi, hereby terminates your appointment as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University with immediate effect,” the letter read.

The institution also stated that Idemobi’s appointment was irregular, noting that it was not duly authorised or ratified by the proprietors, the Board of Trustees, or the Visitor of the university.

According to the statement, the appointment was allegedly made unilaterally by Rev. Fr. Dr. Edwin Obiorah, SAN, a former Legal Adviser to the university, who it said lacked the authority to do so.

The university further accused Idemobi of complicity in actions and decisions that violated the guidelines and regulations of the National Universities Commission (NUC), resulting in governance breaches, institutional disorder and reputational damage.

It directed the former Pro-Chancellor to hand over all university property, records and other materials in his possession to the Registrar within 24 hours of receiving the notice.
