The Anambra State Police Command says it has solved a three-month-old murder case, arresting two men for the killing of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite, Ekwusigo LGA.
Police named the suspects as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20. Both have confessed to the crime, according to the Command.
The case began on March 13, 2026, when the victim’s mother reported her missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.
The next day, March 14, police found the lifeless body of an unidentified woman inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The victim’s father later identified her as his missing daughter.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga,the investigation was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
He stated that police deployed its intelligence and digital forensic evidence to arrest the two suspects on June 6, 2026.
During interrogation, the principal suspect, Ikwugwara, confessed to the murder. He told police he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and claimed he did not know she was married.
Ikwugwara alleged that after a disagreement with the woman’s husband, he fell ill and lost his sight. He said resentment led him to plan the attack.
He further stated that on March 13, 2026, he lured the woman to his home under the pretense of being sick and needing help. There, he and Uzoigwe allegedly attacked her with a machete, killing her. The pair then dumped her body in the culvert near Jesus Bus Stop in the early hours of March 14.
Ikenga confirmed that the suspects would be charged to court at the end of investigations.
According to Ikenga ,Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, commended the detectives for their diligence. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to pursuing justice for victims of crime.
