The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has recovered a double-barrel gun from the scene of a road traffic crash along the Awka–Enugu Expressway.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps Headquarters, Abuja, Osondu Ohaeri.

He said the recovery demonstrates that the Corps’ rescue operations extend beyond saving lives to making meaningful contributions to national security.

According to the statement, the firearm was recovered on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. by the FRSC Rescue Patrol Team while conducting a routine inventory of victims’ belongings after concluding rescue operations at the crash scene.

During the exercise, officers discovered the double-barrel gun concealed among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles.

In line with the Corps’ operational procedures and commitment to public safety, the rescue team immediately secured the firearm to prevent unauthorized access or possible misuse.

The statement added that, as no claimant came forward and no valid documentation for the weapon was available at the point of recovery, the firearm was promptly handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and necessary action.

Speaking on the development, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the professionalism, vigilance, and integrity displayed by the rescue team.

He noted that the incident further proves the strategic role of the FRSC in supporting internal security through its nationwide patrol and rescue operations.

He stated that while the Corps remains primarily committed to preventing road traffic crashes, rescuing crash victims, and ensuring safer highways, its personnel also serve as critical first responders whose alertness has, on several occasions, led to the recovery of stolen vehicles, dangerous weapons, and other items of security importance.

The Corps Marshal assured the public that the FRSC would continue to strengthen collaboration with other security and law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety, protect lives and property, and support national security objectives.

He further urged motorists and members of the public to remain law-abiding and promptly report any suspicious activities observed on the nation’s highways.

The Federal Road Safety Corps reiterated its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and inter-agency cooperation in the discharge of its statutory responsibilities. The Corps also assured Nigerians that every rescue operation is conducted with the highest level of integrity, accountability, and strict adherence to established operational procedures.
