Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue has alleged financial inducement by certain individuals persuading him to step down from the race ahead 2027 general elections.
He cautioned members of his Campaign Council and supporters not to negotiate with anyone on his behalf for money, warning that anyone caught doing so would immediately be relieved of their position.
In a statement on Thursday signed by himself, Ikezue stressed that his decision to run was not borne out of desperation or personal gain, but a divine direction to serve and to assist his constituency.
He said, “It has come to my attention that some individuals are reaching out to members of my campaign council, offering money to persuade me to step down from this race.
“Let me state this clearly: STOP OFFERING ME MONEY TO STEP DOWN. I am hereby warning all members of my Campaign Council and supporters: Do not negotiate with anyone on my behalf for money.
“Do not entertain any such discussion. Anyone caught doing so will be relieved of their position immediately.
“Yes, I am a Priest, and I am not a money bag. My decision to run is not borne out of desperation or personal gain. It is a divine direction to serve and to help *Ndi Anambra Central.”
The LP candidate listed his 6 point agenda to include tackling erosion menace, empowerment of youths, women and Persons with Disabilities, assisting the elderly with welfare schemes, give voice to the voiceless as well as function optimally in all oversight responsibilities.
My purpose for running is clear:
1. To tackle the menace of erosion that is swallowing our communities and displacing our people.
2. To help our Youths and Women with jobs and skills that will make them self-reliant.
3. To help Persons with Disabilities with a structured empowerment scheme that restores dignity.
4. To help our Elderly, 60 years and above, with welfare schemes to sustain them and give them honor in their old age.
5. To be the voice of the voiceless especially Christians that are slaughtered daily in different parts of Nigeria.
6. To function optimally in all oversight responsibilities
“Therefore, instead of offering me money to step down, I will ask all of my supposed opponents to step up as senior citizens and stakeholders who should not want to compete with a Priest who has answered a divine call to serve.
“To my opponents, let me also say this: You are not my enemies. Most of you are Christians therefore are brothers and sisters in Christ. Consequently you should rally around me and support my movement.
“Anyone monitoring recent national political developments should be able to discern there must be more to this my race than meets the eyes. God isn’t an author of confusion. His ways are not our ways. This is about the God’s people, not about personal gains or vendetta.
While reaffirming his commitment to the mission of rescue, results and representation, Ikezue insisted that no amount of money could buy such calling.
