Anambra State has recorded another milestone in education as Mr. Ifetike Chekwube Hope, a technical teacher at Government Technical College, Onitsha, has been named Africa’s Overall Best ICT-Driven Educator for 2026.

Ifetike received the prestigious honour at the African Teachers Excellence Award Gala Night held at the UBEC Digital Centre in Abuja on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The award recognises his contribution to teaching through the effective use of information and communication technology, practical skills and innovative approaches to learning.

Expressing gratitude for the recognition, Ifetike attributed the achievement to God and described it as a significant milestone in his teaching career.

He said, “I have the honour to appreciate the Almighty God for making it possible for me to be the first-ever winner of the prestigious Overall Best Most Outstanding ICT-Driven Educator in Africa.”

The latest award adds to a remarkable year for the teacher. In January, he was also recognised as the Overall Best Performing Teacher in the South-East at the National Teachers Summit.

His achievements have further drawn attention to the importance of technical education and the growing role of digital innovation in the classroom.

Through his work at Government Technical College, Onitsha, Ifetike has demonstrated how practical education can be combined with technology and creativity to make learning more relevant and effective for students.

The recognition is also seen as another boost to Anambra State’s reputation in education, while serving as encouragement to teachers and students who are embracing technology and innovation.

Reacting to the achievement, Ifetike declared: “The sky is our starting point.”
