A police-led joint security team in Aguata has intercepted two vehicles and arrested nine suspects during an early morning stop-and-search operation in Isuofia, Anambra State.
The operation, carried out on Friday, 28th August 2026 by the Joint Operation Base, Aguata, led by CSP Austin Elaigwu, involved the Nigerian Navy, Army, DSS, NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service, and operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, the team stopped a custom-coloured Sienna and an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4 at a checkpoint in Isuofia. A search led to the recovery of:
3 AK-47 rifles,1 pump-action gun,charms and other items linked to the ongoing investigation.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, 9 suspects including seven males and two females were taken into custody.
Ikenga confirmed that during preliminary interrogation, the suspects claimed to be security operatives from a neighbouring state, but could not provide satisfactory explanations for their identities, firearms, or reason for entering Anambra.
“The suspects and the recovered items were immediately taken into custody for questioning and further investigation. Preliminary findings indicate they could not justify their movement or possession of the firearms.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, psc, mnips, commended the operatives, describing the recovery as the result of intelligence-led policing and effective stop-and-search operations.” Ikenga stated.
