The Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Transport, has announced a free electric vehicle (EV) skills acquisition and empowerment workshop for transport operators and other stakeholders in the state.
The three-day training programme, which is designed to equip participants with skills relevant to the emerging electric vehicle industry, is scheduled to hold from Thursday, September 17, to Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
According to a notice dated September 9 and signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Engr. Michael Obiekwe, on behalf of the Commissioner for Transport, the training will commence at 9am daily.
The ministry said the programme was part of the state government’s efforts to promote the transition to clean fuels for automobiles and prepare transport stakeholders for the growing adoption of electric vehicles.
Those invited to participate include private park operators and managers, mass transit and transport companies, fleet operators, commercial transporters and drivers, motorcycle delivery and logistics operators, and courier companies.
Also expected at the training are members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Road Transport Owners (NARTO), as well as operators of students’ union bus schemes, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Coalition of Nigerian Students (COOU) and National Coalition of Nigerian Students (NOCEN).
The ministry urged nominated and interested participants to register online ahead of the programme. It also stated that participants could register by scanning the QR code contained in the electronic invitation card/flyer.
The government described the programme as a “life-changing EV Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Workshop”, indicating that the initiative is intended not only to introduce stakeholders to electric mobility but also to provide practical skills and empowerment opportunities as the transport sector gradually moves towards cleaner energy sources.
The Ministry of Transport said it looked forward to the active participation of stakeholders in helping the state actualise its policy on the transition to clean fuels for automobiles.
