The Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ven. Tochukwu Ikezue has commended Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti for signing into law the much-needed Educational Reforms Bill aimed at sanitizing the education sector and curbing the extortion of parents.

In a statement released from his campaign office on Friday, Ikezue described the reforms as “bold, people-oriented, and a clear demonstration of what Labour Party governance represents.”

According to the new law signed by Governor Otti, the following reforms now apply to all public and private schools in Abia State:

– School Leaving Certificate now costs N2,000 only — ending the era of exorbitant charges.

– No switching of schools in SS2. Students must remain in one school for their senior secondary education.

– Where you did your SS2 is where you will write your WAEC/NECO. This will curb examination malpractice and school racketeering.

– Nobody registers for WAEC/NECO without passing a Government-set examination. All students must pass the new Government Centralized Exam (GCE) before qualifying for external exams.

– Textbooks are now reusable. No more doing assignments inside textbooks. This barbaric practice that forced parents to buy new textbooks every term for every child has been abolished. Families can now have their children inherit textbooks from their siblings.

– No extravagant graduation ceremonies for nursery and primary school pupils. An end to the commercialization of childhood.

The LP hopeful stated that these directives are not just policies; they are relief for millions of poor parents who have been groaning under the weight of exploitative private school owners and corrupt school administrators.

“While other states are increasing the burden on parents, Governor Otti has shown that government can be on the side of the people.

“This is the Labour Party template — making quality education affordable, accessible, and free from extortion. This is the kind of leadership we want to replicate in Anambra Central and across Nigeria,” he said.
