Rotary Action Group for Peace (RAGFP), Anambra State Chapter has called on individuals, communities, institutions and government at all levels to make peace a shared responsibility and a daily commitment.
The Anambra State Representative of the Rotary Action Group for Peace, Rtn. Oby Arinze, made the call in a message to mark the 2026 International Day of Peace, observed globally on September 21.
Arinze said peace should go beyond speeches and ceremonial observances, stressing that sustainable peace begins with the choices people make in their homes, workplaces, communities and places of worship.
According to her, peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but also the presence of justice, mutual respect, dialogue, inclusion and genuine concern for the wellbeing of others.
She urged citizens to reject violence, hatred, discrimination, intolerance and the spread of information capable of creating tension or division, particularly in an era where social media can amplify both positive and harmful messages.
The RAGFP Anambra State Representative also emphasized the important role of young people, women, traditional and religious leaders, security agencies, civil society organizations, journalists and other stakeholders in promoting peaceful coexistence.
She said, “Puilding peaceful communities requires continuous dialogue and the willingness of individuals to understand and respect differences in culture, opinion, background and belief.
“Rotary Action Group for Peace remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote peace education, conflict prevention, reconciliation, responsible citizenship and stronger communities,” she added.
Arinze called on Rotarians, Rotaractors and peace advocates across the State to use the International Day of Peace as an opportunity to renew their commitment to being ambassadors of peace wherever they find themselves.
“Peace begins with each of us. The words we speak, the choices we make and the way we treat one another can either build bridges or create divisions. We must therefore choose dialogue over violence, understanding over intolerance and unity over division,” she quipped.
She further encouraged the public to actively participate in activities marking the International Day of Peace and to translate the message of peace into practical actions that can strengthen families, communities and society.
She expressed appreciation to Rotarians, Rotaractors, partner organizations, government institutions, security agencies, the media and other stakeholders supporting peace-building efforts in Anambra State.
While arguing that observance provides an opportunity for people to reflect on the kind of society they want to leave for future generations, Arinze stressed that peace is not the responsibility of one person, organization or government, but a collective responsibility.
The Rotary Action Group for Peace, Anambra State Chapter, therefore calls on all residents to embrace the spirit of peace, promote respectful dialogue and become deliberate agents of reconciliation and positive change.
