Hon. Jim Chimezie Okolo, Nigerian Coordinator of Nouvelle Perspective, a UN-accredited election observation organisation, has been honoured with the UN Champion for Youth Mobilisation Award.
The award was conferred on Okolo at the 10th Anniversary Conference of The African FutureTrust Model United Nations (TAFMUN), held at the ECOWAS Commission Building in Asokoro, Abuja.
Okolo was recognised for his contributions to youth mobilisation, leadership development and efforts to empower young people to play meaningful roles in society.
The conference, held under the theme “Empowering Futures,” brought together young people and stakeholders with interests in leadership, diplomacy, development and youth empowerment.
The event also recognised Okolo as a TAFMUN Champion of Youth Leadership, in acknowledgement of his involvement in initiatives focused on leadership development, capacity building and youth participation.
Speaking after receiving the award, Okolo expressed appreciation to the organisers and dedicated the recognition to young people committed to making a difference in their communities and society.
He said the honour would further strengthen his commitment to supporting initiatives that create opportunities for young people, build their leadership capacity and encourage them to contribute positively to national and global development.
Okolo, who has participated in international election observation and peace-building initiatives, said youth mobilisation remained important to building a more inclusive and responsible society.
TAFMUN is focused on exposing young Africans to the workings of the United Nations, diplomacy, leadership and international relations, while providing platforms for young people to develop relevant skills and engage with issues affecting their future.
