The Anambra State Government is considering the establishment of a modular refinery as part of plans to expand into Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) production in the state.
The Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu, disclosed this when he received members of the National Association of LPG Marketers, Anambra State Chapter, who paid him a visit at his office at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka.
Ofoegbu said the state government, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo, was committed to sanitising the petroleum and gas sector and creating an enabling environment for investment.
He urged Ndi Anambra and other prospective investors interested in establishing gas-processing plants to take advantage of the emerging opportunities in the sector.
The commissioner assured investors that the state government was ready to support them with access to gas supply for their plants.
Responding to the association’s request for a workshop, Ofoegbu stressed the importance of such engagements, particularly those aimed at addressing challenges confronting operators and promoting safety in the LPG sector.
Earlier, the state chairman of the National Association of LPG Marketers, Dr Daniel Madueke, said the delegation visited the commissioner to seek approval for a workshop on LPG safety and operations.
Madueke said the proposed workshop would educate members of the public on the nature and contents of LPG, the different pressure levels at which it operates, and measures to prevent domestic gas-related accidents.
He also congratulated Ofoegbu on his appointment as Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, describing him as a “square peg in a square hole.”
