The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Ibuzo, has said that the problem of leakages facing the Ministry has been decisively addressed through digitization. “We found out there were a lot of leakages because everything was analogue. So, we started digitization, and in that process, we found out that so many government parks were undocumented,” Hon. Ibuzo narrated. The implication of this is that the government was unable to account for some of the parks it owned.
Pointing to the impact of the digitization to the challenge of leakages in the Ministry, Hon. Ibuzo said that since the digitization, the Ministry uncovered more than ten undocumented government-owned parks. Now, the Ministry has moved “from 40 government-owned parks to 52 parks owned by the government now duly documented,” the Commissioner revealed.
Speaking on the challenge of touting or multiple park operators under various guises in different parks, the Commissioner, Hon. Edward Ibuzo, also assured that it has been addressed by the Ministry with digitization of the identities of park operators in Anambra State. “We now have a digitized vest with clear identity of park operators, and they must wear the vest on duty,” Hon. Ibuzo said, noting that the move will address all manner of rascality in parks as the full identities of park operators in Anambra State are now well known to the government. This will be deployed from tomorrow, Friday, October 9, 2026.
Commenting on what the Ministry is doing to mitigate the cost of transportation, the Anambra State Commissioner for Transport said that there is a plan to bring in CNG and electric vehicles that will convey commuters at a competitive cost around major transit points within the State. “We have a plan to bring CNG and electric buses. We are 60% gone into this and it will be launched from now till December. The buses will provide transportation for the people at a competitive rate across major transit routes in the state,” Hon. Ibuzo assured. He also noted that some motor parks in Anambra will be modernized. “We are modernizing some of our parks and upgrading them to terminals,” the Commissioner said.
Anambra’s waterways remain uncertain despite huge potential in the riverine areas of the state. For the Commissioner, the Ministry is also looking into this vital and essential means of transportation in Anambra State. According to Hon. Ibuzo, “We had zero revenue from our waterways. So, we are digitizing our waterways and hoping to get some jetties for effective transportation around the riverine.”
