The Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Queen Agwu, has said that under her, Anambra has a clean record of electoral probity. Dr. Agwu, who was posted to Anambra in 2022, has managed Anambra State elections since the 2023 General Election. Speaking from that experience, he noted that “in Anambra, we do free, fair, credible, inclusive and conclusive elections.”
Addressing a stakeholder’s meeting at the INEC headquarters in Awka, which was attended by political parties, the media, security and candidates on Friday, the Anambra REC also said that candidates should focus on selling themselves, as she also cautioned against vote buying. “Let the candidates tell us who they are and what they want to do. That is what the campaign is about. I beg political parties to do their campaigns peacefully and orderly,” Dr. Agwu reiterated.
With only about 97 days to Nigeria’s 2027 General Election, the INEC REC in Anambra also noted that the Commission is over 80% ready for the election. “INEC is ready”, she said while assuring that there will be no glitch. The REC also announced that the INEC portal is open for applications for various ad hoc positions and encouraged qualified Anambra State residents to apply.
