A team of police and vigilante operatives have busted a four-man robbery gang that was terrorizing Ogidi and environ on Tuesday, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

After an operation at Atta Road, Nkpor Community, in Idemili LGA, the security operatives’ efforts paid off when they captured the robbers sharing their loot.

It was learned that the suspects went to share their loot at an unfinished building nearby after their robbery operation on Atta Road before the security operatives swooped on them.

According to a local witness, the moment the robbers noticed the security guards, they opened fire on them, starting a gun battle between the two sides.

During the incident, one of the robbers was shot in the leg, but the others managed to flee with gunshot wounds.

The Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, Ahmed Sani, confirmed the incident and reported that two guns, a barratta pistol and one cut-to-size local gun, were found at the scene.

Sani claimed that in order to defeat the robbers, the police and the vigilante operatives had to work together.

“The one who was shot in his legs was arrested while the others fled with bullet wounds, and the investigation is ongoing toward arresting the runaway suspects,” he said.

The area is under 24-hour surveillance, and security has been stepped up. We are pursuing those evading suspects.

Residents in the area expressed satisfaction at the capture of one of the robbers and urged the police to keep watching the area during the upcoming Yuletide because the suspect was one of the robbers terrorizing the neighborhood every day.

Okey Uzor, a resident, claimed that the police had restricted their services to the barracks, which was why the robbers had continued to cause them sleepless nights.

“Our issue is that due to the actions of unidentified gunmen, the police are no longer on patrol.” “Robbers now take advantage of it to steal from and hurt the defenseless public at will, without concern for attack,” he continued.
