There was jubilation in Ogidi community in Anambra State, recently, when a former Special Adviser to former President George Bush of United States of America on Science and Technology, High Chief Emeka Ken Nwabueze MFR (Ajie Okpala Ogidi), donated a secondary school to the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The school, Assumption High School, Ogidi, was singlehandedly built and equipped with modern facilities by Nwabueze.

He handed over the key of the school to the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, His Grace, Most Rev. Val Maduka Okeke at Our Lady’s Catholic Parish Church, Ogidi, during the pastoral visit of the Archbishop to the church.

Nwabueze, an engineer, said he built and equipped the school as part of his contributions to the development of Ogidi, Igboland and Nigeria.

He noted that God has blessed him immensely, adding that he has chosen to extend God’s blessings to the society at large.

The former adviser to former president Bush observed that the state of the country demands that children and youths should be enrolled into quality schools where they could obtain quality education that would prepare them to overcome the challenges of life and also enable them to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and society at large.

The renowned scientist commended the Archdiocese under the Most Rev. Okeke for what he described as good efforts in ensuring that the quality and standard of education in Anambra State remains unbeatable in Nigeria.

He noted that he was optimistic that Assumption High School, Ogidi, would thrive to produce champions in various fields of human endeavour and leaders of tomorrow.
He assured the Archbishop that he would continue to support Our Lady’s Parish and the Archdiocese to the best of his abilities.

Speaking at the event, Nwabueze’s younger brother, Mr. Chudi Nwabueze, emphasised that his elder brother decided to build the school in their community to enable children and youths to attend a good school where they would be equipped with knowledge so that hooliganism, cultism and petty social vices among youths would minimised or even eradicated.

He urged other affluent members of the society to invest locally and support the less privileged rather than blaming politicians.

While dedicating the school, Archbishop Okeke disclosed that the fifth Sunday of Lent was a great day in the Catholic Church, describing it as Sunday of a new beginning.

He commended Nwabueze for his magnanimity in supporting the church, the community and the society in the area of education, which he described as all-important.

The traditional ruler of Ogidi Kingdom, HRM, Igwe Sir Alex Onyido, who appreciated the guests, applauded Okeke for visiting the parish to dedicate the school and also confirm young parishioners.
Onyido described the visiting Archbishop as a hard working shepherd, assuring that he would always support the church.

The monarch also commended the Nwabueze family for always making Ogidi proud wherever they found themselves. In his remarks, the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Alloy Agba, who was visibly elated, said his two years and some months of missionary work in the parish has been fruitful as a result of the massive support of the people.

Agba assured that the church would not rest in its commitment to ensure that God’s blessings would never cease on the people of Ogidi.
