The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the commencement of the full-time mode of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D) degree programme at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU). The approval, conveyed in a letter dated 26th February 2026 and signed on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, followed a successful resource verification visit to the University’s proposed programme.

According to the Commission, the approval takes effect from the 2025/2026 academic session and applies strictly to the full-time mode of the Doctor of Pharmacy programme at the University’s Main Campus. The NUC clarified that the approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery, noting that any plan to commence part-time studies must be duly communicated to the Commission for further processing and consideration.

The approval was granted after a panel of experts assessed the human and material resources available for the establishment of the programme and found them adequate for take-off. The Commission further directed that the programme must bear only the approved title and nomenclature, and that any subsequent change would require its express approval.

The University has also been enjoined to continue providing adequate human and material resources to ensure the sustainable development and growth of the programme. The milestone marks a significant step in COOU’s commitment to expanding its academic offerings and strengthening professional education in the health sciences, in line with national standards and global best practices.
