Songs of joy, jubilation and praises to God like no other, yesterday, rocked Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, Awka, as a Catholic priest, Rev Fr. Chikezie Cyprian Ugochukwu of St Theresa’s Parish, Ogbu, surprisingly presented a new Lexus 300 car to an Anglican Church Teacher, Ozoemena Ezeugo of Our Savior’s Anglican Church, to aid and enhance Ezeugo’s missionary work in the Anglican Communion, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.
The Catholic priest, who described the beneficiary as a vibrant and zealous young servant of God who loves people with whatever he has; frankly told the press the reasons that spurred him to make the unprecedented donation.
“Ozoemena is a missionary. He’s indeed working for God. I see in him the zeal to save soul, the zeal to die for people.
“I discover that he has the qualities I have – the same spirit in me. So, these are the reasons I decided to support him, specifically to enable him to do the work of God happily,” he said.
“Like the biblical Peter tells the lame man at the Beautiful Gate, “I have neither gold nor silver. I don’t have money, but through my friends … I coordinated the funds for the car to the glory of God.”
He further advised church leaders across denominations against allowing denominational inclination to change the value of Jesus Christ which he described as “doing good to everybody”.
Rev Fr Ugochukwu, who came to the church, primarily to receive personally, an award of honour given to him by a zonal group in the church for his outstanding service not only to God, whom he serves, but also to the poor, earlier with friends of his, made a cash donation of N100,000 to the church in appreciation to the recognition accorded him.
The coordinator of the group, Ezeugo, described Rev Fr Ugochukwu as his mentor and philanthropist par excellence whose generosity to the less privileged had resulted in emergence of a good number of medical doctors and other experts across professions.
He stressed that Rev Fr Ugochukwu’s style of philanthropy has remained inspirational to him.
For the gift of the car, the beneficiary, Ezeugo, was visibly overwhelmed with joy as he suddenly fell before the altar, on the announcement of the gift by the benefactor; shed tears of joy, dancing around with hands lifted in praising God for His goodness and mercies.
Responding, the Vicar of Our Saviour’s Anglican Church, the Rev’d Azubuike Mgbikeh, thanked Rev Fr Ugochukwu for the donation and the gift of a car, solemnly asking God to continue to bless and reward him.
