Gunmen literally set Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area on fire on Wednesday night, leaving tears as one Mr. Izuu Agbaenu, a foreign exchange trader was assassinated, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

The assailants, armed with automatic rifles, and other dangerous weapons, trailed Mr. Izuu Agbaenu from Nkwo through Eke Umuoji road.

A source confirmed that the gunmen carried out the operation with one vehicle suspected to have been snatched from the owner.

Further details on the killing of Mr. Izuu Agbaenu revealed that prior to the tragic incident; he left the venue where he was with some friends in an undisclosed restaurant/bar in Idemili North Local Government Area.

Sources said that while he was trying to escape from them, his vehicle summersaulted along Urumkpu road, Umuoji. While he was helpless in his newly acquired Rav 4 SUV Jeep, the assailants shot him 3 times.

The gunmen fired in the air to clear the road and escaped after killing Mr. Izuu, leaving his mobile phones, money and other valuable items in the car behind.

In a related development, gunmen had shot a man in an attempt to snatch his SUV at the Local Government Headquarters junction, Ojoto. A source also revealed that this type of ugly incident has been happening in Mmili John, along Ojoto-Oba road, and Umuoji-Nnobi road.

Meanwhile, irked by the gruesome murder of Mr. Izuu, Umuoji residents have called upon the government, town union leaders and traditional rulers, stakeholders and the security to rise and protect them against incessant killings by the hoodlums.
