The Organisers of Anambra Man of the Year Award has announced that it received a total of 837 nominations for Woman of the Year Award category .
Established in 2020, the award, Anambra Man of the Year recognizes men and women from the state who have done outstanding things in their careers or vocations in the year under review.
Apart from The Man of the Year Award category which appears to be the flagship or cynosure of the award event ,there are also other award categories including woman of the year, industrialist of the year, business man of the year,oil and gas person of the, philanthropist of the year, Rising Star of the Year, Inspiring woman and leader of the year etc.
The organisers of the prestigious award recently opened nomination for various categories of award and has received a total of 837 nominations sent through various platforms for the Woman of the Year category.
Top among the names that made the list of nominees for Anambra Woman of the Year,2022, include, renowned author, Chimamanda Adichie; wife of the governor of Anambra state,Nonye Soludo and wives of two former governors of the State,Margaret Obi and Ebele Obiano.
Others include Senators representing Anambra Central and North Senatorial District,Senators Uche Ekwunife and Senator Stella Odua respectively.
Also, on the list are, respected academia and deputy Vice Chancellor ,Paul University,Professor Stella Okunna;Former Minister for Education,Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili;Member representing Onitsha North and South Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon Lynda Ikpeazu;MD fidelity Bank,Nneka Onyeali ikpe;CEO Cutix Plc, Ijeoma Oduonye; Commissioner for women and children’s Affairs ,Ify Obinabo; Founder, Sisters’ fellowship International, Mrs Nches Iredu; CEO , Britannia U Oil ,Mrs Uju ifejika; first female Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria ,(South East , Chapter), Lady Engr Ada Chukwudozie and Permanent Secretary,Police Service Commission, Dr Ifeoma Anyanwutaku
The woman of the year award category is important because it honors and reflect on the impact of women in the society.
According to the organisers,the award is given to positive female role models who provide inspiration to the womenfolk .
This year’s nominees were drawn from various segments of the society including, academia banking ,activism, politics and public service, religion and manufacturing
Rector , federal polytechnic Oko , Anambra State ,who is the first woman to become a rector of the institution and Top banker and former ,Deputy Managing Director, Zenith Bank,Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji Nwokoye are the two distinguished women who have been recognised with the award.
The Selection Committee is expected to choose 5 of the nominees that will make it to the final voting stage of the process which will commence next week. The person with the highest number of votes will be announced as the Anambra Woman of the Year and will be celebrated alongside other awardees at an elaborate event.
The organisers stated that character,track record, concrete achievements within the year under review will form the basis for the selection of the 5 top finalists. The final stage of the process is the voting stage which will throw up the Woman of the Year ,2022
