The Commissioner for Environment in Anambra State, Mr. Felix Odimegwu, has directed residents, shop owners, churches, banks, and schools to commence full desilting of drainages around their vicinities to check flooding.
The Commissioner gave the directive in Awka while speaking with journalists shortly after inspecting flood channels around Aroma, Ifite Awka-Amansea road among others.
Mr. Odimegwu issued an abatement notice through Environmental Health Officers who inspected the whole areas and discovered that people are no longer performing their civic duties.
He explained that the abatement order will go round the nook and crannies of the state for seven days after which enforcement will commence.
The Commissioner reiterated that to achieve clean, green and sustainable Anambra State, Ndi Anambra must join hands in protecting, cleaning and preserving the environment.
He added that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is working assideuously to fulfill the promises he made to Ndi Anambra, and pleaded with residents of the State to buy and make good use of waste bins, warning that within the next forty-five days, residents, shops and institutions without waste bins will be fined.
