Avoid thuggery, exam malpractice, other vices, Rector Warns fresh students

As Federal Polytechnic, Oko, officially admitted students into the citadel of learning, on Friday, 23rd June 2023, Rector, Engr. Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, has warned the fresh students to desist from any form of thuggery, cultism, examination malpractice and other anti social vices.

Speaking at the 39th matriculation ceremony held at the polytechnic auditorium, Dr Nwafulugo who formally admitted the students, urged them to pursue excellence and seek ways of becoming creative in order to become a person of value.

“There is need to remind you that your primary assignment here is to study and to successfully graduate in your chosen course of study. It is imperative that you give it your best and the only way to achieve that is by being studious. You have to work hard”

While welcoming the new students, the Rector however expressed delight over the students for passing through the hurdles of admission process and assured them of condusive environment for teaching and learning.

“I’m delighted to welcome all our students who are matriculating today, you may have passed through challenges and difficulties before gaining admission as an undergraduate, I wish to congratulate you for taking a bold step in order to achieve your dreams and today you are officially being inducted into the Federal Polytechnic Oko as an undergraduate”.

“There are many things that may distract you and make you lose focus. You must resist them. You have to remain focus to achieve your dreams. Make friends with students that will inspire and motivate you into becoming the best. Avoid thuggery, cultism, examination malpractice and indecent dressing” said Nwafulugo.

Dr. Nwafulugo implored the students to commit themselves to academic excellence, moral rectitude and good character, adding that the polytechnic is positioned to offer them quality and impactful academic experience.

“Being a polytechnic Institutions we aim at raising individuals who will not only be brainy but also could be productive with their hands. Maximize the facilities in this institution to turn your potentials into skill that could be valuable and marketable. I encourage you not to give up.

The Rector however congratulated Miss Ifeoma Amuche who passed through the Polytechnic and emerged the best in Chinese University after being sponsored to learn Chinese language.

The matriculation vow was administered by the Deputy Registrar of the Polytechnic incharge of personnels, Dr. Blessing Asuzu, while the event attracted principal officers, the clergy, deans and Heads of departments.

Some of the matriculants, Mr. Vincent Agwu of Mechanical Engineering and Miss Judith Nwafor Computer Science Department, expressed joy and promised to be good students.
