The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Chief Victor Umeh has waded into the demolition of property in Lagos.

The demolition, our correspondent gathered affected mostly Ndigbo.

On Tuesday, Umeh who is the Chairman Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, and Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development visited the headquarters of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) in Abuja to discuss the fate of owners of houses in Abule-Ado Areas of Festac, Lagos state which have been under demolition.

Recall that concerned about the huge losses and the outcry over the ongoing demolitions in Abule-Ado, Umeh had earlier intervened in the Senate and also engaged the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa through the Senate Committee on Land, Housing and Urban Development (where he is Vice Chairman) on the need to halt the demolition exercise and to conduct proper investigation.

Umeh therefore proceeded to the headquarters of the FHA on Tuesday where he had very useful and fruitful deliberations with the Managing Director of Federal Housing Authority, Senator Gbenga Ashafa and the General Manager, Zonal Coordination of FHA, Barrister Hajara Kadiri towards resolving the Issues and halting further demolitions.

Part of the solutions was that terms of settlement would be worked out by the Federal Housing Authority which would be mutually beneficial to all concerned.
