Mrs. Eucharia Agbasimalo, the spouse of kidnapped Obiorah Agbasimalo, who ran as a candidate for the Labour Party in the Anambra State governorship election in November 2021, provided testimony in an Ihiala High Court in Nnewi, Anambra State. She made allegations against the two defendants, Chukwudi Odimegwu and Maxwell Nwokolo, claiming that they played a role in her husband’s abduction. Eucharia’s claims are based on her conversations with Nwokolo, one of the defendants, as well as his confessional statements to the police. She also believes that Nwokolo received a ransom of N5.4 million but did not release her husband, further implicating him in the kidnapping.

Eucharia testified recently before Justice C.N. Mbonu-Nwenyi and was cross-examined by B.I. Nkememena, who is the counsel for one of the defendants. During her testimony, Eucharia provided detailed evidence that supported her belief that Odimegwu and Nwokolo were involved in the abduction of her husband. The trial of Odimegwu and Nwokolo, as well as other individuals who are still at large, is ongoing. They are facing charges of conspiracy and kidnapping in relation to the abduction of Agbasimalo, which occurred on September 18, 2021, in Lilu, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

According to Mrs. Eucharia while testifying before the court, she said, “Nwokolo, the second defendant, advised my husband’s family not to report the incident to the police or media because he was in constant communication with the kidnappers to release my husband. But up till date, my husband has not been released despite Nwokolo’s assurance that he would be released once we did not inform the police and at the same time paid the N5.4m ransom.”

She added: “In his statement to the police, Nwokolo wrote that his Investigating Police Officer told him that the first defendant informed him that the running mate to my husband paid N8m to the police for his bail bond and also hired a lawyer to secure his bail from the police custody.”
