A stray dog allegedly foraging for food has retrieved an abandoned baby boy in a forest in Abagana in the Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A source told our correspondent that the stray dog carried the infant across a busy road and kept it at public glare apparently for passersby to pick baby up for rehabilitation.

The source said,”The dog found the baby in a plastic bag in which he was abandoned in the forest.

“From what we saw the baby may have been abandoned in the forest for about two days before the dog discovered it.

“The baby is doing well; he is stable, the source told our correspondent.

A video trending online corroborated our source.

In the video, some women believed to be local midwives were seen cleansing the baby while condemning the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The women and a male voice doing the video wondered how someone would carry a baby for nine months, only to throw such a child away.

While thanking God for saving the baby from being devoured by animals, they implored perpetrators of such acts to handover babies in such circumstances to people to take care of instead of throwing them away.

Our correspondent could not get police reaction to the story as of the time of filing the report as calls put across to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, could not go through.

He is yet to respond to the WhatsApp message sent him by our correspondent in that respect.
