Adaora Umeoji officially becomes the Group Managing Director of Zenith Bank June 1, 2024.

She also becomes the first female Chief Executive Officer of the market leader across different segments of the nation’s banking industry ,making her the most powerful female banker in Nigeria.

The development comes two months after her appointment was announced as the successor to Ebenezer Onyeagwu whose performance earned Zenith Bank over 60 recognitions including 31 international awards and ended his 5-year tenure with back-to-back “Best Banking CEO of the Year in Africa” from the International Banker.

Onyeagwu ended what is widely described as an exemplary stint on May 31, 2024, with Umeoji described as one of the most popular – and widely accepted -Chief Executives to become CEO taking up the mantle of leadership on June 1, 2024.

Umeoji leaves the position of Deputy Managing Director of the bank since October 28, 2016, with about thirty (30) years of cognate banking experience to her name – twenty-six (26) years out of them with Zenith Bank – and an arresting portfolio of qualifications to become the Chief Executive Officer.
