A legal practitioner, Barr Chinwe Ejike has urged Federal Ministry of Education to remove all books encouraging sexual intercourse and immorality from the syllables of secondary and primary schools.

She said such books not only polute the children but also foster corruption in the country.

Ejike gave the advice while sharing views with a team of journalists on issues of moral decadent, sex education and roles of parents in the family.

She cited a literature book for JSS students titled: Stigma by Sampson O. Shobayo being used in one of the Federal Government Secondary Schools in Owerri, Imo State, arguing that “in as much as the book really talk against stigmatization of people leaving with HIV but it encourages JSS girl students having boyfriends and sex.”

She said, “Federal Ministry of education should remove all books encouraging sexual intercourse among adolescent or secondary and primary school students from their syllable because it bring and foster corruption in our country.

“Secondary and primary school teachers should shun teaching the children what will pollute their mind sexually or what will corrupt them.

“If such immorality is taught to our JSS students, I wonder what our society will be in the next ten years and the youths and adults will breed evil.

“I’ve contacted the school and confirmed that the book is in their syllables for Literature-in-English. The book encourages sexual relationship with HIV patients through kissing.

“Apart from the school, there are other books some schools use that corrupt children. Such books include Basic Science & technology for Junior Secondary school 1,2&3 by WK Hamzat, S. Bakare, pages 29 – 47 – 48 – 52 pages 67 – 73 and 86 which promote abortion, LGTB, masturbation and sex with condoms to JSS students.”

The legal practitioner futher enjoined parents to wake up to their responsibilities, describing them as primary educators of their children.

“Parents cannot eschew this responsibility under the excuse that they are working hard to earn a living. They should read the textbooks recommended to their children in the school before they will use them so that if it is corruptive, they will raise alarm and stop them from using it.

“Family remains the natural context children embibe those cherished values which form the super structures for the building of our natural ethics. Family institution unarguably is indeed the fundamental unit of the society.

“Most vices in Nigeria today are caused by failed parenting and failed parenting engenders: armed robbery, banditry, immorality, and kidnapping.

“Parents should rediscover themselves and reinvigorate their respective families to enable them to parent their children to be responsible citizens, because our civilization is imperiled when families are imperiled,” she added.
