Awka roads to be constructed with paving stones – ACTDA

Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) on Thursday announced plans to commence construction of inner roads within its jurisdiction with paving stones.

Managing Director, Mr. Ossy Onuko disclosed this shortly after the commissioning of 130 metre- street road
constructed with paving stone in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

He said the paving stone road initiative was conceptualised, designed and executed by the Agency, saying the decision for the use of paving stone road was informed by its durability and longevity.

He said, “We want to use the Amansea road to experiment the new initiative for subsequent inner road constructions in Awka Capital Territory.

“The road has a good drainage system with solar powered street lights. What we have done is in line with Governor Soludo’s agenda of building a smart mega city through uncommon innovations.”

Commissioner for Works, Engr Ifeanyi Okoma maintained that the paving stone would not only be durable but would stand the test of time.

Okoma, represented by Director of Highways in the Ministry, Engr Noel Okoye expressed satisfaction with ACTDA giant strides, particularly under Onuko’s leadership.

“The government of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo is happy with the positive exploits of ACTDA, under Mr. Onuko.

Chaplain to Governor Soludo, Rev Fr Dr. Raphael Onyekwelu whose house is located along the street appreciated the Governor for developing the state simultaneously.

He commended Mr. Onuko and his team for the fantastic jobs they were doing in the Capital city, praying God to bless them.

Speaking separately, member representing Njikoka Two Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Jude Akpua who doubles as Deputy Majority Leader, and his Awka North Constituency counterpart, Johnmark Ikwunne, described the road as sharp departure from the usual roads residents were used to.

They praised the ACTDA boss for bringing innovations and creativity to bear in course of his leadership.

On his part, Engineer that constructed the road, Mr. Vincent Ojukwu reiterated the durability, cost effective and easy to maintain benefits of the road, assuring a 15 to 20 years lifespan.

Among dignitaries that graced the occasion included Transition Committee Chairman of Awka South Local Government Area, Prince Chinedu Okafor, his Njikoka counterpart, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba.
