A new President has emerged at the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Anambra State in the person of Mr Chuddy Orakwue as the new president.

The Orakwue led-faction took over following dismissal of the purported President, Mr Chikwelu Adigwe, over certificate racketeering.

Addressing reporters on Wednesday at the NULGE secretariat in Awka, Orakwue said his emergence also followed the court judgment of Sept. 29, 2022 which ruled in favour of his executive.

He extended our hands of fellowship to aggressived members to move the union forward for improved welfare for Local government workers in the state.

He said: “By the grace of God, we are officially taking over NULGE secretariat today after a long time of crisis and parallel governments.

“Due to superior interests, the court judgment of Sept. 29, 2022 was not obeyed and the self-acclaimed president continued as president of the union.

“It is a new dawn and we are extending our hands of fellowship to everybody to move the union forward for better and bountiful welfare for LG workers in the state.”

Appreciating Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Local Government Service Commission and board members for their continued support to the body, the NULGE boss promised to cooperate and partner with government to take Anambra LG system to enviable heights.

He appealed to the Governor to implement the new minimum wage passed into law by the National Assembly.

“Governor Soludo is a labour-friendly Governor and we beg him to implement the minimum wage.

“We also thank the Local Government Service Commission Chairman and board members for their efforts to promote efficiency and productivity in the LG system.

Also speaking, Mr Vin Ezeaka, Chairman, LG Service Commission, said the commission made efforts to reconcile the two factions as the rivalry was not beneficial to the system and workers.

“There has been two factions in NULGE in the state and the commission has been dealing with them. We even made efforts to reconcile them because such rivalry was not beneficial to the system.

“We very recently dismissed the president of one of the factions over certificate racketeering.

“I know that Orakwue led-faction has taken over and we urge them to be united and organised as workers in the system, ” he said.
