Declare separate Igbo nation now by executive order, Anambra Industrialist Tells Tinubu

By Tony Okafor, Awka

Prominent entrepreneur and former governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, has called on President Tinubu to issue an executive order pronouncing a separate nation for the Igbo now, rather than allowing the ongoing profiling and destruction of Igbo properties, especially in Lagos.

He sounded the alarm over the increasing agitation for the ejection of Igbo people from Lagos and Yoruba land.

In a statement, made available to our correspondent on Wednesday, Dr. Obidigbo expressed concern over the activities of some Yoruba ethnic bigots, who he claimed are championing the #IgboMustGo movement.

Dr. Obidigbo accused these individuals of promoting Yoruba hegemony and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other well-meaning Nigerians to condemn their actions.

He also criticized the President for surrounding himself with those he called ethnic bigots and political riffraffs, who he claimed are ignorant of the importance of cooperation and collaboration with other ethnic groups.

The entrepreneur specifically mentioned an X (formerly Twitter) user with the handle LagosPedia, who threatened to start a massive protest from August 20th to 30th, 2024, under the hashtag #IgboMustGo, to compel Igbo out of Lagos State and Yoruba land.

Obidigbo emphasized that Igbo people have made positive contributions to their host communities and should not be seen as economic parasites or soldiers of occupation.

He also suggested that instead of promoting xenophobia, those behind the #IgboMustGo movement should consider more civilized ways of achieving their goals.

Obidigbo expressed disappointment over the exclusion of Igbo from Nigeria’s political and economic spheres, citing examples of violence and threats against Igbo during the 2019 general elections and last year’s elections.

Obidigbo urged President Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu to publicly condemn the profiling of Igbo in Lagos and Yoruba land, and to prevent another avoidable conflict in Nigeria.
