Enugu State ushered in the South East Annual August Meeting at the expansive Michael Okpara Square, Enugu Metropolis . This year’s August Meeting Ceremony was a superlative event, featuring several dance troupes, parades and March pasts by over 40 women’s groups, charitable interventions, medical outreach, farm produce exhibitions and everything wonderful about the amazing role women play in Igbo sociocultural and economic community development.
The First Lady of Enugu State Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah played host to an impressive entourage from Abuja, led by the Wife of the Vice President of Nigeria Hajiya Nana Shettima who represented the wife of the president Sen Oluremi Tinubu who stormed the event with wives the of National Assembly leaders.
Women from the various local governments received several gift items to celebrate and kick off the 2024 August meetings across communities in Enugu State.
The Women’s August Meeting is an ages old yearly traditional event across all Igbo communities aimed at mobilizing and rallying women for community development, political participation and selfless service where pressing issues concerning women are addressed. This year’s theme is ‘ Eliminating Abuse to foster a healthy society’.
