Following the recent publication of the vacancy advertisement for the Vice-Chancellor position at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), concerns have been raised over a clause stipulating the requirement of securing 400 million grants by candidates.
The clause states:” the ideal candidate for the Vice-Chancellorship position must demonstrate a proven track record of securing substantial research funding including attracting no less than 400 Million naira and a history of successfully obtaining research grants and other resources to enhance the University’s capabilities, recorded prior to this advert”.
This development has sparked various reactions within academic circles and the general public.
While some argue that it demonstrates a commitment to research and development, others say the clause was introduced to favour a particular candidate.
According to Ibekwe Arinze on his comment on Facebook,he said, “Candidates requirement No 4 disqualifies many”
