The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has solicited improved collaboration and involvement of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in restricting sale of drugs in motor parks across Anambra state.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Joyce Nnennaya Alexander stated this during a courtesy visit to the state Commander of NDLEA, Anambra State Commander Onyishi Daniel Ogbonna.

She canvassed for the involvement of NDLEA in FRSC’s proposed operation to check drunk driving on an advisory note scheduled for October in preparation for high vehicular movements in Ember months.

She revealed that the operation, on its first phase, will be more on advisory and cautioning of erring drivers, while the second phase will feature full enforcement.

She also implored him to continue using the robust FRSC data bank in tracing vehicles and drivers in the discharge of the Agency’s duties.

“Today’s vsit is to familarize with your office and to consolidate on the already existing relationship between FRSC and NDLEA in a bid to sustain partnership and collaboration with sister security Agencies in the State.

“The FRSC has the mandate to check drunk driving and apprehend drivers found to have violated the DUI (driving under Influence of drugs) traffic rule, but can not prohibit the sales of these stimulants,” she stated.

Responding, State Commander NDLEA affirmed that a cordial synergy with FRSC has been there and would be sustained.

He assured the Sector Commander of his Agency’s readiness to engage in the proposed joint operations with FRSC.

“There is no set down rules to prohibit sales of alcohol because it is socially accepted. However, other drugs like Indian hemp, cannabis, etc can be tackled,” he added.
