Former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Chief Simon Okeke and Anambra State Chairman of Motorcycle Transport Welfare Association, Comrade Jude Udegbe have endorsed Chief Akai Egwuonwu’s aspiration to be the next Senator of Anambra South Senatorial zone.

Okeke in a telephone interview described Egwuonwu as all round qualified to represent the Senatorial district in the National Assembly.

He noted that Egwuonwu would do well as a representative of the Anambra South Senatorial district given his success story in the private sector and his exposure.

He said his expectation from Egwuonwu was to attract industrial development to the district, adding that the zone did not have enough industries to create enough job opportunities for the teeming population of unemployed youths in the area.

“We need these industries in Anambra South Senatorial zone to checkmate rural-urban migration of unemployed people who now travel to Lagos, Abuja and other developed cities for greener pasture at the expense of the development of the Senatorial zone,” he added.

Former PSC boss also named security as one of the areas Egwuonwu should pay much attention to, for ease of doing business in the zone and to secure lives and property.

In the same vein, the Anambra State Chairman of Motorcycle Transport Welfare Association, Comrade Udegbe on behalf of his members in the Senatorial district has endorsed Chief Egwuonwu as the best among others.

Comrade Udegbe who spoke to reporters in Nnewi said his association was happy that Chief Egwuonwu was contesting the by-election under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) platform.

He said the association expected that Chief Egwuonwu would attract Federal Government’s attention to the zone as a lawmaker in the Red Chamber to complement the efforts of Governor Charles Soludo who he said had been doing a lot to ensure welfare of the people and development of the State.

“Based on what we have heard about him, Chief Egwuonwu is a good man. We will give him maximum support. That’s the kind of a man we would like to represent Anambra South Senatorial district to work with His Excellency, Governor Soludo, “he added.

Comrade Udegbe cited Chief Egwuonwu’s gesture as the first reported private sector operator who had started to pay his workers the Federal Government approved minimum wage of N70,000, that is to the least paid worker, with a workforce of about 2,000, when many other establishments both private and public were still contemplating whether to pay or not to pay.

“If Chief Egwuonwu can do this as a private operator, how much more when he becomes a Senator. We need someone who has the welfare of the people at heart.

“He needs the support of everyone because he is kind-hearted. That’s the kind of a person that deserves our support as an association.

“On our own part, we would like him to attract more Federal Government attention to roads in Anambra South. Good roads are very critical to us as transporters and others need good roads, too.

“Government should also through Chief Egwuonwu’s influence give us steady and adequate electricity supply in our zone. These are all our expectations, among other things.

“We’re, however, sure that Egwuonwu will ensure quality representation because of what we have seen and heard about him, “Comrade Udegbe concluded.
